Prince William Sound Glaciers by Rail and Cruise, Anchorage

From £219

11.5 hours

May-Sep

Overview

A full day adventure by rail and cruise, this excursion takes travellers south from Anchorage alongside the scenic Turnagain Arm to the coastal city of Whittier.

Perched on the edge of Prince William Sound, from Whittier you will board a catamaran to head out onto the water where sea otters, whales and birds are frequently seen. Passing through the glacier-filled College and Harrimann Fjords, prepare to be amazed by the incredible shapes and iridescent colours to be found in this ancient ice.

As you head past Alpine, Piedmont and Tidewater glaciers, all eyes on deck will be peeled for the impressive sight of a calving, when glacial ice roars to life and large chunks crash into the water below. Lunch is served on board the catamaran, while you soak up the wild scenery all around. You will return by train to Anchorage, paying a final respect to the fingers of wilderness which stretch between Anchorage and Whittier.
