Struggling to open and navigate the Internet browser on your PS5? The web browser feature, though not as prominent as on the PlayStation 4, is still accessible and can be a handy tool.  Whether you’re looking to browse gaming forums or watch videos, knowing how to open the internet on your PS5 can enhance your overall gaming experience.

In this article, we’re going to show you how to open the browser on the PS5 and answer the key questions along the way too. Before we do, we’ve also had a look at how to connect a PS5 to a TV, and also how to update your PS5 to keep it at its best. So keep those in mind for wider use of your console. Right, let’s get into the instructions.

Step-by-step guide: How to open the Internet browser on PS5

Step

1

Link with other services

On the PS5 menus, navigate to ‘Settings’ > ‘Users and Accounts’ > ‘Link with Other Services’

Step

2

Link X (formerly Twitter) account

Once on ‘Link with Other Services’, select ‘X’ > ‘Link Account’

X (formerly Twitter) serves as a gateway to the internet, allowing you to visit various websites. Twitter provides a search bar in the top right corner of its interface. By dragging your cursor here, you will be able to search for what you need.

Step

3

Bypass X login

A pop-up window will ask for your X account details. Instead of entering these, click on the X icon located in the top left corner of the pop-up. This action redirects you away from the account linking page to X’s standard login interface.

Step

4

Log onto X/twitter account

Enter your X account details as you would in a traditional web browser/smartphone.

Logging into X is a necessary step to access the broader web through this method.

Step

5

Access external sites

Once logged in, you will reach your X home screen. From here, you can navigate to external sites such as YouTube, Reddit, or any other online resource. This can be done by clicking on the various links available on the platform.

Step

6

Accessing specific sites

To go to a particular website, find a post or X account that contains a link to that site. The most straightforward way is usually through the site’s official X account if they have one. We recommend favoriting or bookmarking posts that feature the links you visit often, that way you no longer have to go looking for them when you need them!

Can you browse the Internet on PS5?

Yes, you can browse the internet on the PS5, but not through a traditional PS5 web browser. The PS5 has no official Internet browser application on your PSN account, but the console does allow for web browsing through indirect methods – essentially a hidden web browser. The simplest way is through the use of ‘Links with Other Services’ option in the system settings, with many of these services including social media platforms like X. By accessing external links through these platforms, you can visit various websites, much like a traditional web browser. This workaround provides a useful way to browse the internet and is relatively easy to set up!

Why is there no Internet browser application on PS5?

Unfortunately, Sony did not view the application as a priority and deemed it an unnecessary feature for a next-gen gaming console such as the PS5. Furthermore, with ultra-fast browsing speeds available on smartphones, leaving the application off the console was important to help manage storage space. Lucky for some, the browser is still available indirectly as demonstrated by our useful step-by-step guide in the settings menu!

Conclusion

Although this process is not as seamless as the original browser application found on the PS4, accessing the web through X remains the only way to replicate the feature on the PS5, and by following our step-by-step guide, the process became just that bit easier.
