Overview

The location for our brown bear watching trips, Kuhmo in East Finland is located near to the Russian border in a region that is home to some fabulous scenery, idyllic villages, wetlands and ancient taiga forests. This wilderness area provides the perfect habitat for some intriguing wildlife including wolves, wolverines, owls and the majestic brown bear.

Lakeland in the south east is dotted with thousands of lakes as well as unspoiled nature and abundant wildlife ideal. Hiking and outdoor activities abound, and being just a stone’s throw away from Russia, there are many reminders of the region’s colourful and fascinating past.

From mild fear to major giddiness. Be prepared for the unbelievable size of the brown bears as they come trundling out of the forests in Eastern Finland. Take a small tripod to steady your camera – I guarantee you'll be trembling with excitement as you come to take the shot.
