Travel on a small ship expedition-style cruise to discover the dramatic wilderness of Alaska’s Inside Passage and famous Glacier Bay. Join guided nature hikes ashore and kayak amongst icebergs, or keep watch for whales and bears from the deck.
Alaska’s spectacular Inside Passage is best explored from the water, and this small ship expedition-style cruise offers the chance to really immerse yourself in a dramatic glacial wilderness. Travelling at a leisurely pace allows for a more in-depth exploration, with time available to kayak amongst icebergs, join guided nature hikes ashore or keep watch for whales and bears from the deck.
By cruising on a smaller vessel you can enjoy a more flexible and intimate experience, travelling with like-minded fellow passengers in search of wildlife and natural wonders. This itinerary allows plenty of time to enjoy a more interactive discovery of some of the highlights of the Inside Passage.
Itinerary
All voyage itineraries are intended as a guideline only – embracing the unexpected is part of the legacy of expedition travel. Actual routes and landings will be flexible to take advantage of wildlife sightings, weather conditions, tides and the interests of the group.
Board your expedition ship today where you will meet your crew and get acquainted as you set sail for a week of epic scenery and secluded wilderness.
As you explore the remote bays of Icy Strait there may be an opportunity to kayak in these sheltered waters, paddling through giant bullwhip kelp that can grow to over 100 feet long. Perhaps take a skiff excursion to a rocky outcrop where sea lions play, or step ashore for a guided forest hike. The ship’s onboard expedition team will share facts about the region’s marine biology, flora and geology along the way.
The crown jewel of America’s national parks, Glacier Bay covers a staggering 3.3 million acres. By travelling on a small ship you’ll have the opportunity to delve further than most visitors, with the chance to hike the outwash field of glaciers winding down the Fairweather Mountain Range, cruise into Dundas Bay in search of humpback whales, bears and maybe even a wolf, or kayak the calm waters of this icy wilderness. A second full day in the park allows for further exploration, with time to hike ashore through spruce forests, cruise amongst the icebergs, and keep watch for wildlife – you may spot puffins and eagles, sea lions, whales, mountain goats, bears and moose.
Meander through glacier-carved fjords along the Chichagof coast, where waterfalls and moss-dripping trees decorate the coastline. Chichagof Island is home to one of the densest populations of bears in the world, as well as giant trees and fascinating tidal pools. Enjoy a rewarding hike on shore or board a kayak or skiff in search of sea otters.
Spend the day exploring in Frederick Sound, another excellent chance to view humpback whales and other marine wildlife. Pass by Five Fingers Lighthouse, Alaska’s oldest, and The Brothers Islands, where sea lions nap on rocky islets. Paddle into the deeps of Port Houghton or Windham Bay or head ashore for a hike.
Enjoy breathtaking scenery as steep-walled fjords cleave into the mountainous mainland. Waterfalls abound and mountain goats defy gravity as they cling to the cliffsides. Tidewater glaciers calve into the fjords, mountains soar overhead and inquisitive harbour seals frolic in the water. Tonight the Alaskan wilderness provides a fitting backdrop to a Farewell Dinner.
Gather for breakfast before returning to historic Juneau.
