An excellent introduction to Jasper’s world-class scenery, this day trip begins with a short tour of the town itself, originally constructed in the early 19th century as an outpost for the fur traders who opened up Canada’s west.
From here, you will head across the Athabasca River to Maligne Canyon, where you can enjoy staggering views of the river as it thunders through a series of magnificent waterfalls in a gorge 10,000 years in the making.
Further up the valley, you will stop to solve the mystery of ‘disappearing’ Medicine Lake, before continuing to the breathtaking Maligne Lake. On arrival you can take an interpretative boat cruise bound for Spirit Island, one of Canada’s most iconic images, or enjoy a guided walk along the shoreline of this beautiful lake.
It is always possible to spot wildlife while touring the Jasper area, including black bears, deer and caribou.
Get straight to the heart of things. Travelling by train in Eastern Canada is convenient and good value, and takes you where you want to be without traffic or bears in the road.
