Explore the diverse landscapes of Tasmania on this 9-day adventure, spanning from the northern to the southern tip of the island. Your journey begins in Launceston, where you’ll travel along the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail and marvel at the geological wonders of takayna/Tarkine and Cradle Mountain National Park.

Heading south, you’ll visit the stunning kunanyi/Mount Wellington, Hartz Mountains National Park, and Bruny Island. Along the way, you’ll experience the artisanal charm of Hobart and the secluded allure of Corinna.

Itinerary

Welcome to Tasmania! Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting in Launceston, one of Australia’s oldest cities. Visit the Tiagarra Museum on Mersey Bluff in Devonport for a Welcome to Country ceremony and guided tour at the Tasmanian Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place. Discover Aboriginal petroglyphs and learn about the palawa people, the traditional owners of lutruwita (Tasmania). 

Travel along part of the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail, stopping at scenic spots like Narawntapu National Park, home to abundant wildlife. Learn about the area’s rich Aboriginal heritage and, if time permits, sample local ciders, chocolates, and truffles along the trail.  

After lunch in the picturesque town of Penguin, continue along the rocky coastline to Stanley. Climb The Nut, an ancient volcanic plug with stunning views. Explore the working wharf for fresh seafood, then continue to your accommodation near Smithton, where you’ll stay for the next two nights.

Today, you’ll venture into the Tarkine Wilderness (takayna in the local palawa language), home to Australia’s largest temperate rainforest and the second largest int the world. This area is rich in geological marvels, Aboriginal history, and unique wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. Explore sites like the hidden Trowutta Arch and the Lake Chisholm sinkhole, showcasing fascinating geological formations. Along the Tarkine Coast, visit Marrawah, renowned for its big wave surfing, and the Edge of the World, where the ocean stretches uninterrupted to Argentina. Embark on short walks to explore these sites, then return to your rural accommodation near Smithton for the night. This area is ideal for stargazing after sunset! 

Today, journey through Rocky Cape National Park, known for its windswept heathlands, sea caves, rock pools, and ancient twisted rock formations. Continue to the historic Table Cape lighthouse and the picturesque Boat Harbour Beach. Stop at Hellyer Gorge and take a (sometimes muddy) walk to admire Philosopher Falls near Waratah. Tonight, stay at Corinna, a remote rural town. Enjoy a phone free evening, as there’s no service here! Join your fellow travellers for a group dinner and watch the sunset in this peaceful setting. 

Your free time this morning allows for optional kayaking (extra cost) or hiking around Corinna area. After lunch, journey to the breathtaking Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, where your overnight accommodation awaits nestled amidst the trees. Relax in the afternoon or choose to visit a wildlife conservation facility and meet Tasmania’s iconic animal, the Tasmanian devil (extra cost). Learn about the conservation of these endangered animals. Conclude your day with a sunset view of Cradle Mountain, listening out for the distinctive calls of the devils. 

After breakfast, embark on a scenic hike along the Dove Lake Circuit in Tasmania’s iconic Cradle Mountain area. The boardwalked path makes for an easy walk, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the lush surroundings. The trail winds around the lake beneath the impressive mountain spires, offering stunning views throughout. Later, enjoy a group lunch at a local restaurant within the park. Then, continue your journey to Launceston, making optional stops for tastings and shopping along the way. Indulge in locally grown raspberries, cheese, and ice cream.  

After breakfast head to Hobart (or nipaluna in the language of the muwinina and palawa peoples, the Traditional Owners of the land). Upon arrival, gather for a welcome meeting with new members of your group. Continue to the Port Arthur Historic Site, once a convict settlement with a dark past. Explore its history through an audio experience and a short boat cruise. Drop into a local distillery for an optional tasting before checking out Remarkable Cave for a glimpse of stunning beach views. Enjoy waterside accommodation tonight at Eaglehawk Neck on the Tasman Peninsula. Join your group for dinner get to know each other.

This morning, after breakfast, drive along the scenic Tasman Peninsula, passing through Eaglehawk Neck. Stop at Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen, and the Tessellated Pavement to admire their unique rock formations. Return to Hobart to explore the vibrant Salamanca Markets, renowned for local produce and handmade crafts—a must-visit in Hobart. After lunch, visit piyura kitina (Risdon Cove) for a bush tucker experience led by a palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) guide. Learn about the culturally rich landscape, taste bush tucker, hear cultural stories, and explore the area on foot. 

Today, journey to kunanyi / Mount Wellington for stunning views overlooking Hobart, its surrounding mountains, forests, and waterways. Then, venture into the Hartz Mountains wilderness for short walks through this rugged landscape shaped by ancient glaciers. Continue your exploration with a visit to Geeveston, a small town celebrated for its forestry heritage. Travel up the Huon Valley to visit a honey farm and cidery, where you can learn about the valley’s apple farming history and enjoy optional cider tastings from a fourth-generation orchard. 

This morning, board the ferry to Bruny Island, renowned as one of Tasmania’s most stunning destinations! Ascend 279 steps to Truganini Lookout at The Neck for panoramic views, Indigenous history, and wildlife spotting. Explore South Bruny National Park, home to the Cape Bruny Lighthouse overlooking the rugged Southern Ocean. Visit local shops for tastings of local produce like oysters, honey, cheese, and beer. Enjoy pairings of local beer or wine at a nearby producer before returning to Hobart, where your journey concludes.
