Fly from London to Akureyri for a short winter break in the capital of North Iceland. Located at the head of the country’s longest fjord, Eyjafjordur, Akureyri has a thriving port and an excellent range of restaurants, cafés and places to stay. Highlights include the world’s most northerly botanic gardens and an imposing Lutheran church which dominates the skyline. If you can manage the many steps, the views from here over the town and fjord are well worth the climb.
During your stay a visit to the Forest Lagoon geothermal baths is included. The carefully designed lagoon is protected naturally from the wind and ever-changing Icelandic weather by the surrounding forest, helping maintain the infinity pool’s water temperature of 39°C- 42°C.
A wealth of optional activities are also on offer – you may wish to book a whale watching cruise, take a tour to explore Lake Myvatn or the icy Godafoss waterfall, or take an unforgettable dog-sledding trip over the wintry landscapes of North Iceland.
And to top off your trip, you might also witness the northern lights dancing across the night sky.
