Overview

How amazing would it be to celebrate the dawn of a New Year somewhere as pristine and unspoilt as an ice hotel in Swedish Lapland? Under the clear dark skies of the polar night keep watch for nature’s own light show, the northern lights, chink ice glasses and celebrate in style.

Located 200km north of the Arctic Circle, in the small village of Jukkasjarvi, the Icehotel is skillfully crafted each year using ice from the frozen River Torne. It is thereby transformed into a work of art by the world’s leading ice sculptors. Walking inside, you will be mesmerised by hallways lit by sparkling chandeliers of ice, while the art suites have to be seen to be believed.

With the Icehotel still looking particularly festive after the Christmas celebrations, New Year here tends to be a more romantic affair. As there are more huskies than people in Jukkasjarvi and its surrounds, people here prefer not to set off fireworks in case they scare the dogs, hence the traditional bonfire.

During your stay you’ll spend one night in an iconic ice room and the other two in warm accommodation. You can choose to upgrade to an ice Art Suites, or even book a warm room as back-up for the whole stay.

The Icehotel restaurant offers a fine dining experience and is where the New Year’s Eve gala dinner is served. Also in the village is the Homestead restaurant, which is a picturesque 20-minute walk from the hotel.

Itinerary

On arrival in Stockholm, make your own way to the city centre. Check into your city centre hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure, enjoying the many attractions Sweden’s capital city has to offer.

Fly from Stockholm to Kiruna and transfer to Jukkasjarvi where you will check in at the Icehotel for a 3-night stay (one in an Ice Room, two nights in a warm room – ask our team about upgrading to an Art Suite or Deluxe Suite). You’ll get kitted out in your thermal clothing, on loan for the duration of your stay.

Icehotel Accommodation

Find out about room types and dining options at the inspiring and totally 'cool' Icehotel in Swedish Lapland.

Enjoy a buffet breakfast in the restaurant, then the day is free to explore your scenic surrounds on one of the many optional excursions from husky sledding to snowmobiling. In the evening, why not book a table at the Icehotel restaurant and enjoy  à la carte dinner or dinner on Ice. Head back to the Icehotel, wrap up warm and stand around a traditional bonfire within a circle of candles down by the frozen River Torne, faces aglow as the countdown to midnight begins.

At the Icehotel after a late night you might wish to have a lazy morning. Alternatively, there will be plenty of things to do should you wish to be more active – don’t forget, it is advisable to book any optional excursions in advance to ensure availability.

Morning at leisure, perhaps to have one last look around the Icehotel or take part in another optional activity before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
