There have now been 35 incarnations of the amazing Icehotel and this inspiring and ‘cool’ hotel has to be seen to be believed! Combining engineering know-how with supreme design flare, it is created each winter then left to melt back into the River Torne in late April.

Alongside the winter hotel is the permanent Icehotel 365 housing the spectacular Icebar. And nearby heated buildings complete the experience. Staying at the Icehotel combines conventional comfort with the intriguing concept of ‘sleeping on ice’. We recommend you stay for three nights, with one night spent in a cold room and two nights in warm and stylish hotel rooms or chalets. Sleeping on ice is far more comfortable than it may sound as you are sleeping surrounded by ice rather than on it. Many people find the silence and cool fresh air coupled with the cosy thermal sleeping bag provided gives the best nights’ sleep they have ever had!

The world’s coolest hotel

From the moment you step inside the door, you’ll understand why this hotel is famous the world over. From its hallways lined with ice art and glittering chandeliers, to the atmospheric ice bar, you’ll be swept away by the magic. Radiating from a magnificent central hallway are the Ice Rooms and Art Suites.

There are also many warm areas at the Icehotel. There is a bar and across the road, you find the Icehotel Restaurant serving mouth-watering meals including the famous Ice Menu and Chef’s Table.

Icehotel 365

A permanently chilled structure, Icehotel 365 sits next to the seasonal hotel. Covered in snow during winter it blends seamlessly with the adjacent temporary structure, while in summer its domed roof is covered in grass and wildflowers.

Maintained at sub-zero temperatures by solar power, the interior is just like the winter hotel. There are 11 Art Suites and nine sensational Deluxe Suites with lockable doors and heated ensuite bathrooms. The Icebar is also located in 365 together with an art gallery.

Each of the 11 Art Suites come with access to a private and lockable cubicle at the Riverside Lobby where toilets, saunas and showers are located. Icehotel 365 also has warm toilets just a short distance for the Art Suites.

Good to know…

Prior to your night in the Icehotel, and depending on which night that is, you will check out of your warm room by 11.00am and store your belongings in the adjoining Riverside Lobby. If you’re switching from an Ice Room or Suite to a warm hotel room or a chalet the next day, check-in will be available from 3.00pm.

At the time of booking, you can decide which nights you would prefer to sleep in the cold and warm rooms, though this is subject to availability. Our Travel Specialists can give you advice on the combinations available. You can also choose to spend your entire stay in a warm room, or have one as back up whilst on your ‘ice night’. Speak to our team to discuss all your options.

Icehotel rooms & suites

The core of the Icehotel concept is, of course, its cold rooms, which range from standard ice rooms to deluxe suites. The winter Icehotel comprises Ice Rooms and Art Suites, while Icehotel 365 houses Art Suites and Deluxe Suites, as well as the famous Ice Bar.

  • Ice Rooms at Icehotel

    These classic rooms with ice ‘furniture’ typically contain a double ice bed but there are a few that sleep up to 3 or 4 people. These rooms are the ‘standard’ room type our trips are based on.

  • Art Suites at Icehotel

    Individually designed Art Suites are carved by artists from around the world. Each room varies in style, theme and composition but has a large ice bed. The walls may be adorned with all manner of ice art and creative lighting to enhance the unique theme, which can be surreal, artistic, comical or thought-provoking – all most certainly, are stunning. The Art Suites in the winter Icehotel have a curtain that can be pulled across the doorway.

  • Deluxe Suites at Icehotel

    Individually designed as with the Art Suites, all four of these suites have a heated area with seating, sauna, bathtub, shower and toilet.

Warm rooms

There are several warm room options all with excellent facilities.

  • Kaamos Room

    These hotel rooms are located in several buildings in the scenic surrounds of the Icehotel. Kaamos means ‘polar light’ and these rooms receive plenty of it with large corner windows. They are spacious and furnished in a contemporary Scandinavian style and sleep two mostly in twin beds but there are a limited number of double beds. Kaamos rooms also have an en-suite bathroom with shower.

  • Arctic Chalet

    These charming and airy wooden chalets with modern furnishings have two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other a single bed, an en-suite bathroom and a small dining area with a fridge, TV and tea and coffee making facilities.

  • Nordic Chalet

    Delightful ‘light and bright’ wooden chalets, with modern furnishings and two bedrooms, one with twin beds, the other bunk beds, an en-suite bathroom and a small dining area with a fridge, TV and tea and coffee making facilities.

Restaurants & bars

Two very welcoming restaurants provide different dining experiences. Both offer delicious Swedish cuisine and use the freshest local ingredients, some only found in Swedish Lapland.

Icehotel Restaurant

Located almost opposite the reception, the Icehotel Restaurant offers a fine dining experience in a bright, modern atmosphere. With a high end á la carte menu in the evenings, immaculately presented meals often feature reindeer, elk, grouse and Arctic char and the desserts are truly wicked!

The restaurant cuisine has been featured in gourmet magazines around the world and has been awarded the prestigious Werner Vögeli Statuette. There are three sittings for dinner reservations, at 6pm, 7.30pm and 9pm – we recommend you make in advance.

An impressive breakfast buffet and lunchtime buffet are also served in the restaurant and there is a small bar.

Chef’s Table at The Veranda

For a truly spectacular fine-dining experience, reserve your space on the Icehotel’s exclusive 12-course Chef’s Table at the Veranda. With only 16 spaces available for each sitting, guests will embark on a menu of taster dishes prepared by the Head Chef. Hand-picked wine packages prepared by sommelier Sofie Nodefors are also available. Spaces are limited, so pre-booking is essential.

Homestead Restaurant

Around a 20-minute walk from the hotel, the Homestead is a charming log building, constructed in 1768 and overlooking the River Torne. Wooden tables and chequered tablecloths create a welcoming and homely atmosphere. Open in the evenings only it offers a rustic á la carte menu. There are two times for dinner reservations at 5.30pm or 8.00pm, which again we recommend are made in advance.

ICEBAR at the Icehotel

One of the special features at the Icehotel is the ICEBAR, which is built of blocks of pure ice with a creatively carved backdrop. Marvel at the innovative design and architectural brilliance – this large space often boasts striking columns, an impressive vaulted ceiling, stylish sculptures and subtle lighting to create a wonderful ambience.

While away an evening with other guests, relax in the seating area with its cosy reindeer-skins and sip vodka cocktails served ‘in the rocks’ using ice glasses.
