Overview

Iceland is an ideal destination for touring by motorhome and campervan, with wide open spaces and magnificent scenery to keep your jaw dropping with every turn in the road. And generally, those roads are uncongested and are a joy to drive.

There are few restrictions on places to camp although we would recommend using some of the excellent camping sites to be found across the country, which have a range of facilities, some include swimming pools and saunas.

The greatest benefit over a conventional fly drive holiday using a car and fixed accommodation is, of course, that you have total freedom to follow your own schedule and stop whenever, and wherever, the fancy takes you. The light nights over the summer months really do have an energising effect and mean that you can get so much more from your holiday this way. We would thoroughly recommend it, especially for families.

Eric Chill Icelandic style. If you're in the north, the Nature Baths in Myvatn are a real treat and a great way to soothe tired muscles after a day of exploring. You'll most likely meet locals bathing in the warm natural waters, so can consider yourself an honorary Icelander.
