Custom designed by a family of Kiwi architects, Hapuku Lodge and Tree Houses is an exceptional contemporary lodge situated just north of Kaikoura.
The property is also home to a working deer farm and olive grove, and enjoys a panoramic backdrop with the dramatic Kaikoura Seaward Mountain Range to the west and sparkling Mangamaunu Bay to the east.
Hapuku’s iconic wooden Tree Houses sit 10 metres above ground, nestled amongst a canopy of native kanuka trees and surrounded by birdsong. These unique one and two-bedroom accommodations include bespoke furniture, log-burning fireplaces and deep soaking tubs, with stunning views of the mountains and the ocean.
Perfect for families, Hapuku’s original olive press building has been converted into an exclusive 3-bedroom property called the Olive House, and comes complete with full lounge, fireplace and balconies, whilst the main lodge building includes 4 luxurious guest rooms and suites. Each features beautiful hand-crafted furniture, a private balcony, and an ensuite bathroom with a rainforest shower and a Japanese-style soaking tub.
Inside the lodge you will also find a cosy guest lounge, bar and dining room, serving continental or cooked breakfasts and gourmet three-course dinners daily. The Hapuku menu showcases fresh local ingredients, including seasonal vegetables from the owners’ farm, accompanied by an extensive selection of New Zealand’s finest wines.
Outside, the courtyard shelters a sauna and solar-heated lap pool overlooking the deer paddocks to the mountains beyond. Numerous walking trails are available or explore further afield on one of the lodge’s mountain bikes. Hapuku can also arrange in-house massages and local activities, and from May to June you can take part in the annual olive harvesting.
