Klahoose Wilderness Resort

Overview

Klahoose Wilderness Resort sits on the edge of the tranquil Homfray Channel, just north of British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast, surrounded by lush rainforest and the rugged Coast Mountains. Owned by the Klahoose First Nation, the resort’s strong indigenous ties set it apart from other wilderness lodges in the region.

The welcoming main lodge is crafted from huge cedar timbers and is home to a cosy lounge with its popular fireplace, and the dining area. Each day a freshly prepared menu draws on its surroundings, inspired by the nutrient-rich waters of the Salish Sea, the vibrant farm-to-table communities of coastal British Columbia, and the delicacies foraged from the wild rainforest. Fresh, sustainable ingredients full of local flavours reflect the culture and essence of the area.

The property offers a choice of accommodation with four Lodge Rooms and three larger private Cabins. The Lodge Rooms sleep up to two guests and feature a queen or double bed and private bathroom. Two rooms have a balcony, but all offer ocean views. The cedar Cabins are just a few steps from the main lodge and feature a large sitting area, balcony and one or two bedrooms. Each cabin has a private bathroom and stunning views over the Homfray Channel.

Conservation and Community at Klahoose

Klahoose Wilderness Resort and Klahoose Coastal Adventures are 100% owned by the Klahoose First Nation. Many of the resort’s cultural interpreters, guides and staff are Klahoose and they invite you to see the beauty of the BC coast through their eyes, and to experience shared traditions and stories handed down through generations.

The Klahoose ancestors have managed and protected the region’s natural resources, environment and inhabitants for millennia, and continue to support sustainable forestry and aquaculture for all future generations. They are committed to the preservation, conservation, and protection of our ocean, wilderness, marine, and terrestrial life, as well as supporting the local community through the following initiatives:

  • Investment in glacier, watershed, and ocean health research
  • Partnership with the Commercial Bear Viewing Association to develop industry standards, consistent guide training, and ongoing research to protect bear and wildlife habitat
  • Contribution to the local economy to support regional coastal communities by purchasing locally-sourced goods and food, hiring local and Indigenous staff, and supporting artists
  • Creating a mentorship program for Indigenous youth for careers in tourism
  • The off-the-grid Resort produces its own power and supplies excess power across the territory

By choosing to stay at Klahoose Wilderness Resort each guest contributes to these projects, whilst gaining a greater understanding of and passion for protecting this special corner of our planet.
