But what does that actually mean for PCs and devices? Well, NPUs (Neural Processing Units), integrated AI chat with Copilot, and supposedly more. In that case, we see what that means for the MSI Stealth 18 AI Studio A1V, a quick look review to see how much it actually offers.

Now even though it comes at the same time as Copilot+ PCs, it's not one of those. They seem to be reserved for mostly Qualcomm Snapdragon releases with the Windows on Arm being the main calling point of them, which would seem to knock what this AI laptop can achieve. Instead, the Stealth comes as something of a more inconspicuous gaming laptop so we also see how it compares to the MSI Stealth 17 Studio A13V we reviewed.

Pricing

Being based in the UK, we do have a specific model and pricing will vary depending on where you're based. You can currently get the Stealth 18 AI Studio A1VHG-019US in the States for $2,899.99. The model we reviewed is the A1VHG-002UK and that is yet to be released as of the time of writing. But MSI has informed us that the MSRP is going to be £3,899 That certainly puts it at a more premium pricing for an RTX 4080 laptop but also quite the jump in pricing crossing the Atlantic.

it's a greatly powerful machine with a stunning display that does incredibly well in performance

Design and specs

Starting from the box, the MSI laptop starts off with Stealth in mind sporting the series logo right on the front. Although it still has some colorful design but not too bright. Then thick box competently nestles the laptop inside, made of plenty of thick cardboard it certainly cuts down the plastic packaging. Although the charger and cabling are still wrapped in those but neatly hidden in the compartments beneath the cloth-covered laptop.

For the design, the laptop comes in at a size of 400 x 290 x 24mm and weighs in at 2.89kg for quite a hefty and sizeable device to lug around. But with an 18-inch screen, there's quite a lot to fit in there, which is a very awesome display as well, with a 4K 16:10 resolution and aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and Mini LED tech with DisplayHDR1000 rating. It gives incredible-looking visuals especially that high fidelity content that almost looks lifelike that is great to use for any professional work but also for gaming immersion on a portable PC.

For all that, it has the hardware to support it as well, with the Nvidia RTX 4080 laptop GPU inside, alongside an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, which does bring in 2 low-power E-cores with the NPU. Along with 32GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM, with a 1TB NVMe SSD with an option to expand with an extra PCIe Gen 4 slot on the underside.

As for the packaging and design, it's a sleek and black chassis, with many vents and angular designs on the rear and underside, along with plenty of vent cutouts for all the cooling. It has got rather high feet towards the back to keep the intakes clear of air for the fans you can see underneath. Plus the RGB isn't too glaring, with just the logo on the lid flaring up on turning on on the outside, but inside there's quite a bit more. The SteelSeries-controlled keyboard and lightbar below certainly light up the way in the dark.

Below that you can find a reasonably sized touchpad, although as someone who doesn't use touchpads all day to day, it takes some getting used to. As most of it can be clicked to create a left click you have to be gentle over the top to not accidentally press it. Plus the right clicking can only be done towards the bottom right so even the top right or right still left clicks can be confusing. There is also a good set of speakers on board with 2x 2W on the side and 4x 2W woofers underneath and around that give a good sound supported by Nahimic enhancement.

When it comes to IO there is also a good range of options. The left side sports 2x Type A USB 3.2 Gen 2, and a combo audio jack. At the rear, you get the 1x HDMI 2.1, 1x 2.5Gbps ethernet jack, and the proprietary power connector for the 280W power adaptor. Then on the right, you also get 2x Type-C, one with DP and Thunderbolt 4 and PD 3.1 charging the other a more standard USB 3.2 Gen 2 and DP, along with 1x SD Express. Combined with the WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 card insider, there is a lot of speed for networking and peripherals available for plenty of connections available to you.

There is also an IR 1080p 30fps webcam (with a physical shutter) that allows to use of Windows Hello, with a Fingerprint scanner as well gives you a bit of quicker access and security. All of these combined make it a versatile and powerful machine on the go and not too thick or large like the MSI Titan 18.

Performance

There are just a couple of tests we had time to run on the laptop to check how it performs. Testing out both the hybrid mode, discrete GPU mode, and the AI feature in discrete mode instead of extreme performance. There we see how much it affects performance in Cyberpunk 2077, Cinebench 2024, 3DMark, and Blender, so we should get a good range of performance tasks to get a wider range of options. Lastly, we also ran Furmarks 2 alongside HWInfo to check the temperatures and power draw of the components.

In general, there is a good amount of power inside of the laptop. Looking at the Furmark 2 CPU and GPU stress test, we can see the power draw and temps of the two. There we see the CPU rise to 108W but then drop to a more stable 40W or so, whilst the GPU jumps around the 110-120W mark with spikes even higher. Whilst running that power, both of the parts rose to between 75-85°C and you could certainly feel that heat spewing out from the vents around, although it's unlikely in most scenarios you'll be pushing both so much at the same time.

The scores achieved in the programs also push up quite well, especially compared to the other Stealth 17 we tested previously. Whilst in gaming there is a bit of power too, not an easy task running 4K Cyberpunk at Ultra but it does still get a respectable 30 FPS, but it does help that DLSS 3 is available on the laptop and can be improved much further with that and frame gen.

What does surprise us is how effective hybrid mode is, as previously we've seen that discrete does much better. It does seem to vary depending on task but it does manage to push power and performance further than discrete most of the time. But certainly choosing the AI mode compared to performance does seem to lag behind. Even though it's meant to alter the power according to task it doesn't seem to reach the same heights as specifically picking the mode yourself. So it might not be worth picking it if you want to ensure you're getting all the performance you can.

Conclusion

Overall the MSI Stealth 18 AI Studio A1V is a greatly capable laptop. But it does cost a pretty penny now, especially the UK model, and seems to mostly shoehorn in the AI name as everything else in the industry. Although it has a dedicated copilot button it's still on the beta version and doesn't really speed things up. Asking anything of the program to change on your PC takes a few seconds and it's probably quicker to search it yourself. But summarizing articles and searching does have some benefits, so maybe down the line it will improve, but for now seems to be a bit underwhelming.

But it does bring plenty of performance, connectivity, and stealthiness to it. It doesn't come too bulky and inconvenient but is still hefty and compact even for the 18-inch screen, which itself is incredible with the miniLED HDR option that it is. So it's a bit of an investment to get an AI feature that isn't too prominent but heavily advertised, especially as it doesn't improve too much over-picking power yourself.

MSI Titan 18 HX A14 quick look review – extraordinary mobile power A behemoth of the portable device market, we take a quick look at what the MSI Titan 18 HX A14 has to offer. A powerful gaming laptop with a lot of top-end components inside along with the size to match and fit it all in. Sporting a top Intel CPU and the current lead in Nvidia graphics cards, it's the best combination you can get.

With that, the Windows laptop comes as a possible replacement for your gaming PC and you get a lot for it. As an 18-inch laptop, there's plenty of screen space and a great display and refresh rate alongside it. Along with memory and storage inside, there's not much more you can even cram into it. So here's what comes in on the grand and expensive device.

Pricing

Now this laptop being at the top of the leaderboards, it comes with a more astronomical price tag for the pleasure, as the RTX 4090 gaming laptop has quite the equipment inside of it. You can find the MSI Titan 18 HX on Amazon or Newegg for $5,399. That comes even higher than other laptops with the same GPU and similar CPUs, but they might not quite reach the same level of features. It depends on if you need all the extra on top that's already there including plenty of memory, storage, and display so if you see the worth in all that as an alternative it might be a consideration.

MSI Titan 18 HX A14 is a beast of a machine, with such a high spec, there’s not really anything that can challenge it

Design and experience

The MSI Titan 18 is exactly what it says in the name, a gigantic combination of hardware. The amalgamation of pieces resulted in quite a feat of engineering inside. Just taking off the base shows us a good insight into what it takes to run and cool the 4K laptop. You can see a quick look in the gallery below but it is rather quick and easy to get access with 12 screws holding it down and plenty of tabs to undo around the edge. But that gives you good access to the NVMe SSDs, battery, and fans for upgrades or cleaning.

That gives you access to the incredible three slots for storage, which ours are full of for a full 6TB of fast NVMe SSDs, although models do vary you certainly can't run out of space, along with a 99.9 Whr battery for max capacity and travel allowance. We also see the impressive cooling solution for the hardware with most of it blocked off with heatsinks and pipes leading to the two fans and many exhausts.

On the outside, there is quite a good amount of SteelSeries RGB on it, straying from the more incognito Stealth 17 we also took a look at. But it still keeps it to the logo and keyboard mostly and that itself is quite strong itself. The keyboard is in fact made with Cherry and so gives you a mechanical low-profile option that makes it pleasant and satisfying to use. But in that same line, the touchpad is quite divisive.

The embedded touchpad is smooth and all but without markings and a haptic design I didn't enjoy using it at all. Initially, when I got to it, the LED only lit up on boot, and in Windows 11 Pro, it turned off so just trying to get around to fixing that and using it without was extremely difficult. Even then it resulted in many accidental clicks and all as the whole thing can be used for actions, which leaves me unsurprised the laptop comes with a gaming mouse anyway so you can lock it and ignore the touchpad.

Design overall on the outside is sleek, and gets rather bulky on the back with all the heating. MSI does a nice trick of breaking up the vents with the blue rubber inserts that give it a more unique and interesting look. Whilst the connectors available are also rather plentiful. with a selection of 2x Type C (one with PD3.1), 3x Type A USB 3.2Gen 2, SD card reader, HDMI 2.1, 3.5mm combo, and 1x RJ45 giving you a lot to work with.

There is a lot of included software with the laptop that can get a bit frustrating. Of course, the likes of MSI panel is expected for good control of performance and features, MSI color is there as well for changing the color of the fantastic MiniLED 4K display with 120Hz. But then there is also SteelSeries for the RGB, Nahimic for sound control, and the frustrating Norton antivirus. Some people might appreciate but it can get in the way like the alert for high CPU usage when using Furmark it can always be uninstalled to be fair but there is a bit of bloat in there.

Performance

Looking at how it does, well there's nothing really holding it back. We didn't put it through a whole suite of games and tasks but a good selection of them. With a top choice as a gaming laptop for Cyberpunk 2077, as well as checking its score in 3DMark, Cinebench 24, and speed in Blender. Whilst also investigating the thermal performance and power via Furmark 2 and HWInfo to check temps.

Overall, this laptop is the best-expected performance for mobile components. Squeezing in the heft CPU and GPU does limit the capabilities, as we see they peak at 180 and 181W of power respectively. Although the processor side might be rather close, the graphics of a stand RTX 4090 are much closer to 450W, so it's a lot less. Plus we see over time the CPU throttles down to around 80W instead as the heat builds up, but to be fair this is using Furmark stress on both at the same time, an unlikely scenario in normal use as it teeters around 95°C but the GPU manages to stay around a cooler 81°C and stays on power.

It also handles Cyberpunk with not too many issues as long as you utilize some upscaling, and being 40 series, DLSS 3 is available with frame generation for an even greater experience, and that boosts the performance quite well. Along with crushing scores and tasks put into it whilst in performance mode. Putting it into silent does keep the noise down but looking at Cinebench there is a hit to performance significantly as the CPU and GPU throttles down. So you can keep noise down but at a cost.

very compelling laptop and a replacement for your stationary desktop

Conclusion

Overall, the MSI Titan 18 HX A14 is in fact a titan in size and performance. That makes it a very compelling laptop and a replacement for your stationary desktop. But the 3.6kg weight and 18-inch size do make it a lot less portable than many other laptops. Along with the price, it puts it in a weird category sitting out of reach for many and above many gaming PCs that could be used as well.

But for those who have a need for it and require it, it certainly is a powerful machine. bringing the latest features and hardware does make it a good contender for many years to come with a lot of power behind it. Even though so things don't make it a perfect machine it still has no competition at its level.

MSI Stealth 17 Studio A13V quick look review: slim and sharp gaming power With how much power top-end components output heat, it's hard to imagine a thin choice for a mobile version. Well with some limitations to them compared to desktop versions that is more feasible, but even then a slim choice of a powerful gaming laptop is less likely. But we review the MSI Stealth 17 Studio A13V to find how viable it is as a strong choice of portable performance.

Pricing

The MSI Stealth 17 Studio A13V we tested is the UK version (A13VH-018UK), which does differ from what's available in the US (A13VH-053US). Our model features the 4K 144Hz panel with mini LED and HDR 1000. In comparison, the US version is a 1440p panel with a 240Hz display instead.

What that comes to is that the 4K UK version comes in at £3,099 on Amazon (~$3,874 with 20% tax, $3,100 without), whilst the US version is available for $2,999.89. That is for the RTX 4080 gaming laptop, 32GB of RAM, and the i9-13900H and a varied display from the two options.

Front and foremost of the Stealth is to be just that, thin and inconspicuous which it does achieve

Design

Front and foremost of the Stealth is to be just that, thin and inconspicuous which it does achieve. Cutting down on the RGB and thickness of cooling capacity, it blends in more as something a bit more office-like. Although the heft of the 17-inch laptop is still likely to draw some eyes and it's not all that light coming in at 2.8kg the 20.8mm thickness makes it a bit more manageable than when compared to the MSI Raider I reviewed on our sister site.

Other than that, the heft does provide a strong opening experience as you're able to lift it with one finger as the weight keeps it seated. The display is angled at the bottom edges to give it a fiercer look that also sits slightly ahead of the edge vents possibly keeping it from heating too much.

The keyboard is a lot more standard for a laptop, nothing too fancy but is compact for the numpad particularly which features a second enter. Even a medium-sized set of arrow keys and plenty of fn buttons and functions to take advantage of. But to be fair there is a lot of chassis space to take advantage of as it doesn't extend right to the edge either.

With the thinner chassis, there's not too much flex when you're typing, making it a worthy choice for typing out essays on it, and there's no bending in the laptop either that might cause some issues being carried around. This likely comes from the compact cooling system that keeps things simple with the 7 shared heat pipes for the CPU and GPU, combined with the two dense fans spewing out all the air from the chassis.

Now for the connectivity options, you do have a lot on offer. It doesn't skimp out on providing a good range of choices for your peripherals or power. It features two USB-C connectors, one 3.2 gen, and the other Thunderbolt 4 that enables PD charging as well, although not capable of reaching the AC adapter power in that regard. Along with that two types of A 3.2 USBs, one SD card reaching, an HDMI 2.1, and an RJ45 port. As well as MSI proprietary power connector that delivers 240W to the 99.9 Whr battery.

Performance

When it comes to the hard work done by the laptop, it is capable of plenty of performance behind it. Although of course, it falls far behind what the standalone graphics cards achieve it is still capable of a strong performance for a compact system. Once again the laptop utilizes a MUX switch so you can switch between a hybrid of the GPU and CPU graphics computation, which doesn't always make sense for pure gaming performance.

In these performance benchmarks, we can see how the 4080 Laptop compares to the rest. As we saw in our RTX 4080 review, the performance doesn't reach those levels, rather it compares closely to the RTX 4070 we also tested. But that is to be expected of the compact versions which still have a lot to offer and perform well.

the 4K MiniLED 144Hz display does let you enjoy exceptional graphics on the laptop

Across Cinebench, 3DMark, and Blender there is plenty of power available for any rendering, high-level processing, and gaming on the go. Keeping rather quiet while doing so and without much heat felt on the parts that matter. Of course, there was plenty of it being spewed out from the vents but the keyboard is certainly a safe zone. But just behind it under the screen, there is a lot of build-up there that is very hot to the touch.

Conclusion

Overall the MSI Stealth 17 Studio A13V-018UK is a great compact laptop choice for those wanting a combination of gaming and productivity without being so out there about it. Although there might be some hindrances to performance, it still is a mighty choice for an all-round choice. Especially with the size meaning it doesn't skimp out on any features such as still offering a wide range of connectors and specs available to it.

That extends to the screen as well on the highest-level model, as with the 4K MiniLED and even fast refresh rate, it might need some help to achieve that, but utilizing the latest hardware does give it a hand when it needs. Such as the ability to use DLSS 3 and boosts that make it a much longer-term choice as well. But certainly, the stealthy choice is a strong contender for blended usage.

Thanks to the 3nm fabrication process, the M3 delivers enhanced performance without significantly impacting power consumption. This feature is especially valuable for laptop users who prioritize a harmonious blend of power efficiency and battery longevity, offering an optimal computing experience without frequent recharging.

Price comparison

With the introduction of the new 14-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has discontinued the 13-inch MacBook Pro model, removing it from their website alongside the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. However, the MacBook Pro M2 is still available through third-party vendors.

While the MacBook Air M3's starting price is $1,099 for the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, the old M2 Pro (13-inch) can go up to $1,399 for the 24GB RAM, 1TB storage. Therefore, you can get a lot more RAM and storage for your buck. However, it's important to question whether the M3's other advancements, such as Ray-tracing, are worth more than storage options.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Pro M2 - which is better?

Considering the advancements in the MacBook Air M3, such as hardware-accelerated ray tracing and the benefits brought by the 3nm fabrication process, it arises as the superior option when compared to the MacBook Pro M2. The main difference, enhanced performance, and efficiency without significantly increased power consumption, makes the Air M3 an attractive option for both new buyers and those considering an upgrade.

For those users upgrading from an M1, the M3 Air offers substantial improvements over the M2 Pro, making it the recommended choice for anyone looking to experience the latest in Apple's MacBook lineup.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Pro M2 - conclusion

This isn't just a step forward; it's a giant leap in Apple's chipset evolution, significantly enhancing both efficiency and power within the MacBook Air lineup.

The biggest improvement comes from the M3's graphics processing unit (GPU). Apple included hardware support for mesh shading and ray tracing. When these features are combined with the new Dynamic Caching memory system, it should make gaming and creative apps that rely on the GPU run faster.

Wi-Fi

Another significant leap comes with the MacBook Air M3's switch to Wi-Fi 6E from the M2's Wi-Fi 6. This upgrade might seem subtle at first glance, but it's like laying the groundwork for future speed boosts in your online life. Imagine the day you decide to upgrade your router – with Wi-Fi 6E, your MacBook is ready to leap into action, delivering faster internet speeds that keep up with the latest advancements.

Benchmarks

In practical terms, let's delve into what this means for users. Early benchmarking paints a vivid picture: the M3 MacBook Air, with 16GB of unified memory, boasted scores of 3,157 in single-core and 12,020 in multi-core tests. In comparison, the M2 model, equipped identically, scored 2,610 and 10,120 respectively.

That's a robust 20% boost in single-core and an 18% enhancement in multi-core performance with the M3. But beyond numbers, think about the real-life impact: quicker video rendering, smoother multitasking, and an overall snappier experience. Although it's important to remember that these lab results might vary in everyday scenarios, they hint at the tangible benefits the M3 brings to the table for daily computing tasks.

Wired connections

The wired connections are identical, featuring dual USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support and a 3.5mm audio jack. Power is supplied through a MagSafe 3 connection, which not only guards against spills but also keeps the USB-C ports accessible during charging. The webcam remains the same, offering a 1080p resolution and the same software features.

Color and design

Both the M2 and M3 models come in a range of colors; including midnight, starlight, space gray, and silver.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Air M2 - Price

The MacBook Air M3 keeps the same price tag as the M2 model, meaning no extra cost for the upgrade. For those looking to buy a new MacBook, the recommendation here is the 16GB version. This is because it runs smoother and faster. The M3 with 16GB RAM is priced at $1,299, while the M2 version costs slightly less at $1,199, meaning there is only a mere $100 difference.

However, if you're new to MacBook, or are coming from an M1, we would recommend going for the M3 since you'll get up-to-date tech, ensuring you get more bang for your buck and a longer-lasting product. In terms of finding the best deals, we recommend Amazon and BestBuy for all new MacBook Air products.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Air M1 – worth the switch? MacBook Air M1 users have been waiting for a worthy upgrade since 2020, and it looks like it's finally arrived. The new MacBook Air M3, is equipped with a performance boost and a better display, but how else does it compare to its predecessor? This article will discuss the most important differences between the MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Air M1, covering their specs, performance, and price.

Specs and performance comparison

The main change from the M1 to the M3 is power and performance. The former takes advantage of a smaller node and better architecture to provide way better results. Apple touts the M3 as offering a 60% speed increase over the M1, transforming it into a powerful laptop for machine learning tasks thanks to its enhanced Neural Engine. The Neural Engine operates up to 60% faster: a crucial upgrade for users whose work involves machine learning models.

Moreover, the M3's introduction of hardware-accelerated mesh shading and ray tracing is a game-changer. It offers more realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows in games. But, if you're not a gamer, that's not all it can do; it also becomes a more capable device for creative professionals working with 3D graphics, animations, and video editing.

Design comparison

Design is another aspect that changed. Although not much, it still represents a shift towards a more modern aesthetic. The M3's sleek, beautiful design and larger 13.6-inch display, made possible by thinner bezels, present a more contemporary look compared to the M1's tapered design.

Although the inclusion of a notch for a webcam at the top of the M3's screen has been a point of contention, its impact is somewhat mitigated by the laptop's overall enhanced external displays, including increased nits of brightness and color gamut coverage compared to the M1.

Despite the impressive upgrades from the M1 to the M3 MacBook Air, the M1 remains among the best Macs laptops. It excels in design tasks, media browsing, and even light photo editing, standing strong against many Windows counterparts. If the M3's boost in performance capabilities doesn't match your needs, there's little reason to switch. The M1 still offers considerable value, and holding out for a near future upgrade could yield even greater benefits.

Price comparison

Comparing prices is difficult since the MacBook Air M1 has been discontinued. What remains on the market are units from third-party vendors or possibly refurbished models. However, for newcomers to the MacBook scene, the MacBook Air M3 emerges as the clear choice, coming in at $1,299 for the 13-inch variant, and offering the latest in Apple's technology and performance enhancements.

On the other hand, if you're aiming to save some money and still want to experience the efficiency and design of Apple's best laptops, seeking out a MacBook Air M2 could be a wise decision. The M2 still delivers excellent performance at potentially lower prices, making it a valuable option for budget-conscious buyers looking to step into the MacBook ecosystem.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Air M1 - which is better?

In this comparison, the M3 arises as the best option for someone who is considering enhanced performance and technological advancements. The M3's notable increase in processing speed and the introduction of hardware-accelerated ray tracing stand out as key reasons to make the jump.

The truth is these improvements not only promise a significant boost in efficiency for demanding tasks but also ensure that your MacBook remains at the cutting edge of technology. For users looking to maximize their productivity and enjoy the latest features, transitioning to the MacBook Air M3 offers tangible benefits and keeps you ahead in the ever-evolving tech landscape.

Macbook Air M3 vs Macbook Air M1 - conclusion

To conclude, the upcoming release of the MacBook Air M3 is an exciting development in the Apple Mackbook Air lineup. The M3 chip demonstrates a significant increase in power and performance, from previous iterations of the MacBook Air lineup and arises as the most worthy choice when compared to the M1. However, if you currently own the M1 and you're someone who is not particularly fussed with the powerful benefits of the M3 then there's no need for an upgrade, the M1 is a perfectly capable laptop.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 - Specs and Performance

So which of these Apple products will you choose? The main distinction in the comparison between the MacBook Air M3 and the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 hardware is their display capabilities. The MacBook Pro M3 14-inch boasts a mini-LED panel equipped with Apple’s XDR technology, capable of reaching a peak brightness of 1600 nits and supporting a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. In contrast, the new MacBook Air M3 models maintain a standard 60Hz refresh rate and lack the mini-LED technology, offering a maximum brightness of 500 nits.

Display

Diving deeper into the display differences, the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 showcases a mini-LED panel featuring Apple’s XDR technology, capable of a peak brightness of 1600 nits. This high-end display supports full HDR workflows and viewing of HDR content with exceptional clarity. Additionally, it delivers a 600-nit peak for SDR content and incorporates ProMotion technology, enabling the refresh rate to soar up to 120Hz for smoother visuals.

For users whose work or entertainment heavily relies on superior display quality, such as professional video editors, graphic designers, or photography enthusiasts, the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 stands out as the optimal choice. Its advanced display capabilities ensure vivid, accurate colors and dynamic range that can significantly enhance the visual experience, making it ideal for those who demand the best in screen performance.

Portability

The MacBook Air 13-inch leads the pack in portability. With its featherlight build and slim profile, weighing just 2.7 pounds, so is easy to carry around. Also measuring a mere 0.44 inches in height, this laptop is as unobtrusive as it gets.

In comparison, the MacBook Pro 14-inch is bulkier at 3.4 pounds and 0.61 inches thick it will require more effort. For those who dash from meeting to coffee shop, or students navigating the sprawl of campus life, the Air is the ultimate travel companion.

Connectivity

The MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 also comes victorious in this aspect. While all three models offer two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, the Pro model further includes an HDMI port and an SDXC card slot, expanding its utility for a wide range of peripherals and media access needs.

This additional connectivity is especially beneficial for users who rely on external displays and direct camera memory card access, highlighting the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 as the more versatile and user-friendly choice for those requiring extensive port options.

Sound and sound quality

When it comes to audio, there's a clear winner. The MacBook Pro M3 outshines the MacBook Air M3 with its superior sound performance, boasting what could arguably be considered the best speaker setup available for an Apple MacBook. The 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro features a remarkable 6-speaker sound system, surpassing the 4-speaker setup found in both the 13-inch and 15-inch M3 MacBook Air models.

However, this isn't to say that the audio on the M3 MacBook Air is lacking. Whether you opt for the 13-inch or 15-inch version, you'll still experience impressive sound from its four-speaker system. But the MacBook Pro's six-speaker arrangement, complete with force-cancelling woofers, takes the listening experience to another level.

Colors

The MacBook Air M3 comes in a range of colors; including starlight, space gray, silver, and midnight black. The MacBook Pro M3 colors are currently limited to space grey and silver only.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 - Price

The MacBook Air model stands as the more wallet-friendly option, although not by a wide margin. For the 8GB-512GB configuration, there's a $300 difference between the Air and the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3. However, the real gap emerges when considering the recommended 16GB RAM configuration for both models. Here, the price difference significantly widens, underscoring the Air's advantage in offering a more cost-effective solution for those seeking enhanced performance without stretching their budget too far.

What MacBook Air M3 size is best?

While the standard 13-inch MacBook Air M3 boasts impressive performance at a more comfortable price point, the 14-inch version of the model features increases in certain specifications; such as display area and battery life. If these are some of the specifications that are important to you as a consumer, we recommend delving deeper into the 15-inch MacBook Air M3 variant to see if it is right for you. However, priced at $200 more than the 13-inch MacBook Air M3, these increases in specs are not hugely beneficial to a performance boost. In which case, the 13-inch M3 may suffice.

MacBook Air M3 vs MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 - Our final thoughts

In conclusion, the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 emerges as the superior MacBook, thanks to its exceptional display and enhanced connectivity options. Its high-resolution mini-LED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and Apple’s XDR technology offers unparalleled visual quality, making it the ideal choice for professionals and creatives who demand the best in display performance.

However, for those whose work revolves around office tasks, or for whom a 120Hz screen isn't a necessity, the 15-inch MacBook Air with 16GB RAM presents itself as the optimal choice. It combines ample performance with a more attractive price point, striking the perfect balance for everyday use and efficiency.

Macbook Air M3 review round-up The 4th of March 2024 saw the new Apple MacBook Air models get their debut, and this year the famed M3 processor is finally coming to Apple's flagship lightweight laptop. So, with both the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air getting a specs refresh, what are reviewer's initial thoughts? Well, you can find out here in our MacBook Air M3 review round-up.

After alternating between the previous M1, M2, and Intel Core processors, Apple has finally decided to go all in with its own Apple Silicon chips and bring the M3 to the MacBook Air series. In this article, we're exploring what some of the biggest reviewers have to say about the M3 MacBook Air.

M3 Macbook Air review round-up

The MacBook Air M3's excellent performance is nothing to be surprised about, and it looks like these laptops are even more AI-focused than the last. Let's dive into what else is to be said about this new Apple addition.

Macbook Air M3 review round-up - specs

The MacBook Air M3 (2024) has received notable praise for its ability to support two external monitors, an upgrade from the single-display support of its predecessors. This new feature requires the laptop's lid to be closed to activate the dual-display mode, offering a significant boost to users' multitasking capabilities and workspace expansion.

With this new feature, the MacBook Air M3 becomes a compelling option for those seeking a balance between performance and portability. This advancement positions the MacBook Air M3 as a more adaptable tool in Apple's laptop lineup.

However, the MacBook Air M3 isn't just about connecting to more screens; it brings other notable upgrades over the M2 model. The Verge points out that the 13-inch version now includes hardware-accelerated ray tracing, the AV1 decode engine for more efficient video streaming, and enhanced connectivity with Wi-Fi 6E. These features aim to push the MacBook Air further into the future, offering creators and consumers advancements that enhance both work and play.

CNET underscores that the transition from M2 to M3 isn't just a minor tweak, but really a continuation of excellence. The design features that made the M2 MacBook Air a hit – like its fanless construction using recycled aluminum, the sharp Liquid Retina display, superior 1080p FaceTime camera, high-quality speakers, MagSafe 3 charging, and versatile Thunderbolt ports – remain staples in the M3 version.

Macbook Air M3 performance reviews

Tom's Hardware highlights the Macbook Air M3’s performance: the M3 leads in single-core tests with scores of 3,082 for the 13-inch and 3,094 for the 15-inch models. This outperforms Intel's alternatives, showcasing the M3's capability to handle day-to-day operations with ease. However, the website does stress that they haven't yet finished gathering data.

Comparing the M3 to its predecessors, the M1 and M2, reveals a significant leap in technology. According to Ars Technica, the M3 maintains consistent performance without the need for additional cooling in most tasks, similar to the earlier models. Yet, the real advancement lies in its performance metrics. In Ars Technica benchmarks, the M3 achieves up to 30% faster single-core CPU speeds, up to 40% faster multi-core speeds, and a notable 45 to 65% improvement in graphics performance compared to the M1.

These improvements are not minor; they signify a substantial advancement in the MacBook Air's evolution. The M3 chip enhances the laptop's speed and efficiency, while also reaffirming Apple's commitment to pushing the boundaries of what their portable devices can do. power While they didn't get the option of the M3 Pro or M3 Max that the 2023 MacBook Pro series did, the conclusion is that these new MacBook Airs are more than fit for purpose: lightweight and portable laptops that have more than enough power to define themselves as the best MacBook Airs by far.

The MacBook Air is available in four colorways: Silver, Starlight, Space Gray, and one unique color, Midnight. As a MacBook Air exclusive, Midnight is an attractive deep navy that's a popular choice among buyers. What's more, the Midnight colorway for the 2024 MacBook Air comes with an anodization seal that reduces fingerprints.

Macbook Air M3 (2024) review roundup - our take

If your current go-to is an M2 MacBook Air, the urgency to leap into an M3 might not hit as hard. Yes, the M3 does introduce performance tweaks and the ability to connect to an extra external display, which is great, but it's not the kind of groundbreaking upgrade we saw when moving from the M1 to the M2 or from Intel to the M1. The M2 to M3 evolution feels more like a gentle stride rather than a giant leap, focusing on refining rather than reinventing.

In essence, while the MacBook Air M3 does offer improvements, particularly in performance and AI capabilities, it doesn't redefine the game. It polishes and perfects, making it an enticing option for those on older machines. However, for M2 owners, the benefits might not justify an immediate upgrade. The M3 is about small but smart enhancements, continuing to build on the solid foundation laid by its predecessors, without shaking up the formula too drastically.

Is there a new MacBook Pro coming in 2024? There's been plenty of word on the street about the M3 MacBook Air, but is there a new MacBook Pro coming in 2024? The Pro lineup is the more powerful of the MacBooks, and last year saw the laptops get the next-gen M3 chipset. However, with each new year comes a new range of Apple products, and many are wondering if the MacBook Pro will be getting a new model in 2024. In this article, we'll explore the latest rumors and speculations surrounding the potential release of a successor to the MacBook Pro M3.

Will there be a new MacBook Pro in 2024?

In short, it's too soon to tell if there will be a MacBook Pro in 2024, as not only have we heard nothing from Apple, but there hasn't been much circulating about the rumor mill either. The latest MacBook Pro launch, the MacBook Pro M3, was launched in October 2023, just about four months ago at the time of writing. So, it would be somewhat unusual for a full successor to arrive just a few months after a whole new lineup featuring a new chipset has been released. However, is it impossible that we might see one towards the latter end of the year? No, it's not!

In fact, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has recently speculated in a tweet on X that there might be a MacBook Pro with an OLED display getting a release before the end of the year (via Apple Insider). This move could potentially allow for thinner and lighter MacBooks, and introduce more diverse form factors. OLED technology offers superior contrast, color accuracy, and viewing angles, making it ideal for high-end laptops like the MacBook Pro. It's worth noting that the tweet does state 'at the earliest' meaning that realistically their launch could come a lot later, perhaps in Q1 or Q2 of 2025, if these rumors are anything to go off.

So, while a late 2024 MacBook OLED-esq refresh is plausible, it may be quite late in the year, possibly to allow ample time for the M3 updates Apple introduced in late 2023.

When will a new MacBook Pro be released?

At the time of writing, there's no confirmation from Apple as to when there might be a new MacBook Pro released, especially as the latest models only came out a few months ago. However, as mentioned above, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has speculated that a MacBook Pro with an OLED display could potentially be released towards the end of 2024. So, while signs are pointing towards October to December 2024, it's too soon to make a proper call.

How often should you buy a MacBook Pro?

When it comes down to it, how often you should buy a MacBook Pro depends on your performance demands and your budget. If you can afford it, you could by all means invest in every new MacBook Pro that comes out, but of course that isn't really necessary. In terms of lifespan, a MacBook Pro should last you about five to ten years depending on how heavy your usage is. So, once you start seeing a performance decline about three to five years after purchase could be a suitable time to start thinking about an upgrade, but your MacBook Pro may end up serving you far longer than that.

Do MacBook Pros come out every year?

Yes, Apple usually refreshes the MacBook Pro annually, but it hasn't been completely consistent with these updates. Moreover, the month in which the new MacBook comes out isn't consistent either. For example, the M3 MacBook Pro came out in October 2023, but the M2 MacBook Pro came out in June 2022.

Conclusion

The rumors surrounding the potential release of a new MacBook Pro in 2024 have generated much excitement among Apple enthusiasts. From OLED displays to the powerful M3 Ultra chipset, Apple is poised to deliver cutting-edge technology and enhanced performance to its customers. While we await official confirmation from Apple, these rumors give us a glimpse into what the future holds for the MacBook Pro lineup; so, stay tuned for updates as Apple continues to innovate its high-performance laptop.

Is the MacBook Air M1 worth it in 2024? It's been a few years since the M1 chip had its debut, and there have now been two generations of M-series chips succeeding it: so, a valid question those seeking a Mac laptop upgrade are asking is if the MacBook Air M1 is worth it in 2024. With the introduction of the Apple M1 chip in the MacBook Air in 2020, Apple promised even better performance, improved energy efficiency, and a seamless user experience. So should you still get one four years later?

In recent years, the MacBook Air has been a popular choice among students, professionals, and everyday users due to its sleek portable design, reliable performance, and user-friendly interface. With the M3 MacBook Air on the horizon, we're doing a quick evaluation of whether the MacBook Air M1 is still worth buying over its younger siblings.

Is the MacBook Air M1 worth buying in 2024?

To be frank, the MacBook Air M1 still stands as a worthwhile purchase in 2024 despite the launch of the newer M2 MacBook Air and the MacBook Air M3 being on the cards for release soon. Here are the reasons why:

Enduring performance: The M1 chip continues to deliver impressive performance for everyday tasks, including web browsing, document editing, video conferencing, and content creation in light photo and video editing. Compared to Intel laptops of the same period, there's definitely a significant difference in the M1's performance that has so far stood the test of time.

Remarkable efficiency: Battery life is an undeniably standout feature of the M1 MacBook Air. The M1 chip's energy efficiency ensures long battery life, providing up to 15-18 hours of usage on a single charge, making it ideal for on-the-go productivity.

Seamless macOS experience: The MacBook Air M1 runs macOS, Apple's renowned operating system known for its user-friendliness, stability, and security. It seamlessly integrates with other Apple devices, including your iPhone and Apple Watch, creating a cohesive ecosystem that draws many users in favor of using Apple.

Lightweight and portable design: Weighing just 2.8 pounds and measuring 0.6 inches thin, the MacBook Air M1 is incredibly portable, making it easy to carry around for work, school, or travel.

Stunning retina display: The 13.3-inch Retina display delivers vibrant colors, sharp details, and wide viewing angles, enhancing your visual experience for work and entertainment.

Finally, price and value: As a last-gen Mac model, the M1 MacBook Air can now regularly be found priced below $1000, and it often gets a good discount when on a deal. Essentially, you can get a powerful machine for a really decent price. This makes it an attractive option for an upgrade, even over the M2 MacBook Air.

Who should consider the MacBook Air M1?

The MacBook Air M1 is an excellent choice for the following individuals:

Students: The MacBook Air M1 offers portability, long battery life, and seamless integration with Apple's education apps, making it a great companion for students.

Professionals: Those in need of a reliable and efficient laptop for everyday tasks, including email, document editing, web browsing, and video conferencing, will find the MacBook Air M1 a suitable option.

Everyday Users: If you're seeking a lightweight, portable, and user-friendly laptop for general use, the MacBook Air M1 is a great choice.

Is the MacBook Air M1 still relevant?

As mentioned above, the MacBook Air M1 is definitely still a relevant laptop that stands its ground when up against the next-gen MacBook Air series. What's more, it's regularly commented on that there's no feelable performance difference between the M1 and M2 MacBook Airs unless it's an extremely demanding task. So, for everyday usage and average workloads, there shouldn't be notable disparities. This helps make the MacBook Air M1 potentially one of the best value Macs that you can currently get. However, it's recommended to purchase a model with 16GB of RAM to make it worth your while.

Does the MacBook Air M1 support gaming?

While the MacBook Air M1 might support casual gaming and less demanding titles that have been optimized for MacOS, it's not specifically a gaming laptop. It's also got a fanless design, meaning it might struggle to keep cool under the demanding workloads that come with intensive gaming. For a more robust gaming experience, it's recommended to consider the MacBook Pro models, or dedicated gaming laptops.

Conclusion

After a thorough review of the MacBook Air M1, it's clear that it remains a top contender for those seeking a reliable, portable, and efficient laptop in 2024. With its powerful performance, sleek design, impressive battery life, and seamless integration with macOS, the MacBook Air M1 offers a compelling package; and a decent price point. While considering the limited number of ports and storage capacity, it still provides excellent value for your money.

However, the bottom line is that both the M1 and M2 MacBook Airs are equally capable, and it's dependent on your individual needs. So, go with the one you like the look and feel of, and the one that you can afford!

Is it worth waiting for the MacBook Air M3? As Apple's flagship lightweight laptop, the MacBook Air has been a popular choice since its initial launch back in 2008. Over the years, it's become somewhat of a staple among students, professionals, and creatives alike as a more portable alternative to the MacBook Pro. However, with the announcement of the new MacBook Air M3 seemingly imminent, many are wondering if it's worth holding out for this latest iteration over the current M2 model. So, in this article, we'll take on the question of whether it's worth waiting for the MacBook Air M3, or if you should just go ahead and get a good deal on a current MacBook Air.

Why the MacBook Air M3 is worth waiting for

New chips are imminent

One of the main reasons to hold off on buying MacBook Air laptops at this moment in time is the fact that a new chipset is on the horizon. In a matter of months, Apple is expected to launch 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models that feature the new and improved M3 chip that launched last October. Unsurprisingly, the M3 brings a notable performance boost to the table; there's an overall 20% generation-over-generation improvement with every M-series chip. It looks like the M3 will also have performance cores up to 15% faster than the ‌M2‌, and efficiency cores roughly 30% faster.

While there might not be a huge generational leap aside from the efficiency of the 3nm process over the 5nm silicon of the M2, the M3 chip will have a better all-round performance compared to the M2. This makes it a worthwhile upgrade for those seeking maximum performance. One of the main pull-ins of the MacBook Air M3 is that it balances the power of Apple Silicon with more user-friendly features, including being silent and more portable - with its next iteration, the MacBook Air will become even faster, lighter, and more accessible.

Price drops for the M2 model

Another reason to wait for the MacBook Air M3 to launch is the potential for price drops on the current M2 model. When Apple releases a new product, third-party retailers often reduce the prices of the previous generation. What's more, it’s possible that Apple might bump the existing M2 model down to the base model spot currently occupied by the M1 Air. This means that you can expect to see some attractive discounts on the M2 MacBook Air once the M3 model is unveiled.

We don't know the full story yet

As you can probably tell, we don't have a full picture of the M3 MacBook Air just yet. So, whether you're thinking of upgrading to the M2 or holding out for its successor, what we can say for sure is that it's probably a good idea to wait for its release either way. If you do this, you'll be able to weigh in on the confirmed specs and pricing, and see if any good deals come to the M2 15-inch or 13-inch model from 2022.

When will the MacBook Air M3 be released?

The exact release date of the MacBook Air M3 has not been confirmed, but there are various rumors that can lead us to some estimated guesses as to when it will arrive. Recent speculations from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman are now pointing towards Spring 2024 as a possible release time frame. However, the previous Mac Air's were launched at the World Wide Developers Conference in 2022, so it could be the case that the M3 model will come at the WWDC 2024 in June.

Apparently, the MacBook Air models could have been launched alongside the M3 MacBook Pro in October, but as the 3nm silicon is also used for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone was the priority over the Air this time around. Overall, with little to go off so far, it could just as easily be pushed back from the first half to Q2 of 2024.

Will the MacBook Air M3 be more expensive than the MacBook Air M2?

While pricing details have not been announced, it is unlikely that the M3 model will be significantly more expensive than the current MacBook Air. However, the refinement of the 3nm process could add some costs to the production process, so there could be a small increase, but it's hoped that the price tag will stay loyal to the $1,000 mark.

Final thoughts

If you're in the market for a MacBook Air, our take is that to fully benefit from either better performance or a reduced price point, it's worth waiting for the M3 model to get released. What's more, you hopefully won't be waiting too much longer for an announcement from Apple regarding this.

The new M3 chip will provide a significant performance boost, making it a worthwhile upgrade for those seeking maximum power from their portable laptop. Additionally, the potential price drops on the current model make waiting an attractive option for those looking to save money. However, it's important to consider all of your options and determine what features are most important to you: realistically, you're potentially already in a good spot to buy one of the current MacBook Airs and not regret it come the launch of the M3 variant.

M3 MacBook Air (2024) release date, price, and specs confirmed With the more powerful M3 chip coming to the MacBook Pro and the iMac late last year, it might just be a matter of counting down the months till we see the M3 arrive on the MacBook Air. As the successor to the successful M2 MacBook Air, the M3 model promises to deliver enhanced performance, improved features, and an overall superior user experience. Here's all the essential info you need to know about the M3 MacBook Air 2024, including its confirmed release date, price, display and design changes, hardware specs, and much more.

M3 MacBook Air (2024) release date

Apple officially unveiled its 13 and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops starring its upgraded M3 chipset in a press release on March 4, 2024. The laptops, with refreshed specs and even more streamlined design, can now be pre-ordered, with availability starting on March 8th.

Since the M3 chip was launched, Apple fans have been eagerly awaiting its integration into the MacBook Air lineup. While the M2 MacBook Air was released in 2022, Apple introduced an M3 MacBook Pro in October of 2023, leading many to speculate whether the MacBook Air would receive a similar upgrade. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman initially suggested a fall 2023 release for the M3 MacBook Air, but his later predictions have shifted towards a 2024 launch; more specifically, a recent Power On newsletter narrowed down the end of March for the possible debut of these new models. This proved marginally correct, with Apple launching the new MacBook Air at the beginning of the month rather than the end.

This is a lot earlier than expected, so it looks like we could be waiting a bit longer for the new iPad Pro and iPad Air that were anticipated to be launched alongside the MacBook Air M3. We'll have to wait and see what a later Apple Event or the WWDC in June 2024 has in store, as Apple has let

M3 MacBook Air features

Design

With the introduction of the M2 MacBook Air, Apple unveiled a complete redesign, departing from the tapered design and embracing a more traditional form factor reminiscent of the 14-inch MacBook Pro. As expected, the M3 MacBook Air has retained the same design language as its predecessor, with only a few minor tweaks.

The M2 MacBook Air already stands as one of the thinnest and lightest laptops available, making it an attractive choice for users seeking portability without compromising on performance. Its successor follows in its footsteps, being just 11mm thin and coming in a larger 15-inch model that's returned alongside the traditional 13-inch MacBook Air, giving buyers the option of saving a bit of money by compromising on a smaller size.

M3 MacBook Airs come in four colors, including starlight, space gray, and silver. There’s also a midnight color that features an anodization seal that’s supposed to reduce fingerprints. What's more, each one comes with a matching MagSafe charging cable

Display

The display is a crucial aspect of any laptop, and Apple has consistently delivered impressive visual experiences across its Mac lineup. The M3 MacBook Air is expected to feature a similar display to its predecessor, the M2 MacBook Air. Currently, the M2 MacBook Air offers a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display with a 2,560-by-1,664 pixel resolution, a maximum brightness of 500 nits, P3 color support, and True Tone technology.

While the M3 MacBook Air's display is likely to retain these specifications, there's a possibility of Apple transitioning over to the use of mini-LED technology. Mini-LED displays offer improved brightness and energy efficiency compared to traditional LCD panels. Although the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are rumored to receive OLED displays, mini-LED adoption for the MacBook Air remains uncertain. To further keep a specs distance between the Air and Pro, Pro-level features such as ProMotion and HDR are unlikely to be present on the M3 MacBook Air.

Considering the current design, the M3 MacBook Air is expected to retain the notch at the top of the display to accommodate the 1080p FaceTime camera, as this is a design choice that doesn't interfere with the 16:10 aspect ratio of the screen below it.

Specs and performance

The M3 MacBook Air features the M3 chip, which represents a significant leap in performance and efficiency compared to its predecessors. The specifications of the M3 chip include an 8-core CPU and an 8- or 10-core GPU, manufactured using a new 3nm process. This process allows for more transistors, resulting in improved performance and power efficiency. Alongside this, the M3 MacBook Air is expected to benefit from a unified memory system, ensuring smooth multitasking and seamless performance across various applications.

The MacBook Air lineup has traditionally featured fanless designs, and the M3 MacBook Air isn't one to deviate from this trend. The absence of internal fans contributes to the MacBook Air's silent operation but may result in slightly reduced performance during sustained CPU or GPU-intensive tasks. However, the increased efficiency of the M3 chip is expected to mitigate any potential performance impact, providing users with an exceptional computing experience. What's more, it could become the most proficient MacBook Air gaming so far, so it's worth keeping in mind if you're keen to play Apple Arcade games and such.

Operating system

The M3 MacBook Air will undoubtedly ship with macOS Monterey, Apple's latest operating system. macOS Monterey introduces a range of exciting features and enhancements, further optimizing the user experience on Apple silicon Macs. While specific features and improvements are yet to be announced, users can expect seamless integration with other Apple devices, enhanced privacy features, and increased performance.

MacBook Air M3 2024 price

In terms of pricing, Apple has maintained the same pricing structure as its current M2 MacBook Air lineup. Following the release of the 15-inch M2 MacBook Air in June of 2023, Apple chose to reduce the price of the 13-inch model by $100/£100 to $1,099.00. Unsurprisingly, the M3 MacBook Air 13-inch has the same MRSP as its 2022 predecessor.
