Overview

We’ve been perfecting our selection of wildlife holidays for 40 years. With a choice of independent tours, self drives, small group guided tours, short breaks and adventure cruises the natural world plays an important role in many of our holidays.

From the rugged beauty of Iceland and New Zealand, where the natural scenery is complemented by wonderful birding and whale watching opportunities to the wildlife rich polar regions, the iconic marsupials of Australia to the bears of Canada and Alaska. The extraordinary biodiversity of Costa Rica adds colour and variety to our fauna.

Wherever you choose to travel, our wildlife itineraries can be fully tailor made to ensure you get the best experience possible.

Put the camera down. No words can describe how it feels to be immersed in the intense nature of Antarctica. Take a stroll with a king penguin, watch a baby seal gang rough and tumble at your feet, and whatever you do, stop, take a breath and really feel it. It's wild.

Bears and whales

Our collection of bear watching holidays in Canada, Alaska, Finland and Spitsbergen and includes possible sightings of polar bear, grizzly, brown bear, and the ethereal sounding ‘spirit’ bear, found only in British Columbia.

Whale watching has always played an important role in our collection of holidays both for the independent traveller and those joining a group trip. In fact we were the first UK travel company to organise whale watching trips in Iceland! Our whale watching holiday collection also includes New Zealand, Iceland, Canada, Alaska and the Polar regions.

Kangaroos, koalas and kiwis

Australia’s marsupials need little introduction. They are icons of the country and utterly beguiling when encountered in the wild. Kangaroo Island, off the coast of South Australia is earning itself a reputation as the ‘Galapagos of Australia’. Kangaroos, koalas, wallabies, possums, echidnas, goannas, platypus, penguins, sea-lions and fur seals can all to be found here making it a must visit for wildlife lovers.

In New Zealand, the native species are often small and feathered. As is the case with the iconic kiwi, some are also flightless, perhaps making them all the more endearing. Other rare birds like the kaka, kakapo, takahe and pukeko add an colour and character to the country’s line-up of wildlife.

Colourful critters

So abundant is the wildlife in Costa Rica, it’s like having a front-row seat to nature’s greatest show. Playful monkeys, lazy sloths, curious tapirs and tiny turtles take their place among an extraordinary line-up that also includes whales, frogs and 900 bird species from toucans to macaws, hummingbirds to the delightfully named, resplendent quetzal.

Stay in a jungle treehouse, hike lush rainforest and snorkel with tropical fish on a quest to find the country’s most colourful inhabitants.

Penguins and polar wildlife

Natural wonders form an intrinsic part of the polar environment and small-ship cruises to this part of the world offer some truly unsurpassed wildlife encounters. Several species of penguin, seals, whales and sea birds provide the entertainment in Antarctica while in the far north whales and vast numbers of birds share the limelight with walrus, musk oxen and of course, the icon of the Arctic, the polar bear.
